Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead University of Birmingham Dubai

A UK qualified Teacher, Executive Coach and Mentor, Sanam has been working within the Middle East for almost 15 years. With extensive professional knowledge and many years of teaching and leadership experience working within the UK and UAE Education sectors, Sanam brings a wealth of experience to her role at the University of Birmingham, Dubai.

Leading the implementation for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Birmingham Dubai, Sanam is passionate about driving the University’s commitment to creating and maintaining an inclusive learning and working environment, where all members of the community can flourish and reach their full potential; where there is engagement with the community on issues of equality, diversity and inclusion and where everyone can effect positive change within the University, the city and wider society. Sanam is delighted to be a part of a world-class institution and building upon its ongoing global success.
At a strategic level, Sanam works with school leaders, school group CEO’s and their board of Governors to establish strategic partnerships with a view to develop Initial Teacher Education and Continued Professional Development programmes for teaching professionals in the UAE. She has been instrumental in establishing the School of Education’s strategic aims for learning and teaching through strategic planning, development and management of the school’s complex and diverse teacher education programmes and related external partnerships.
Having been involved in Coaching in Education for a number of years, Sanam is also a member of the University’s Coaching Academy and supports the development of colleagues through coaching of the Dubai and UK campus. She inherently believes that Coaching is one of the most powerful strategies to leverage unlocking an individual’s potential and maximising performance. With a passion for empowering others through self-reflection and self-belief, she adopts a solution-focused, non-directive approach when Coaching. Sanam is passionate about supporting the professional development and growth of others, ensuring that they are able to flourish and develop their own purpose.
Sanam’s current research interest is in the field of Teacher Education and specifically the impact of mentoring and coaching conversations to enhance reflective practice. She is currently completing a Research and Development MSc thesis with the University of Oxford, UK.
